Broad Peak, the third highest peak in the Karakoram Range and the fourth highest in Pakistan, proudly stands at the western terminus of the Baltoro glacier. Despite its commanding elevation of 8,047 meters (26,400 feet), this mountain remained relatively unexplored by climbers for a considerable period.
Recognized as PK 23/52 in Pakistan’s survey records, locals aptly named it ‘Falchan Brak,’ which translates to Broad Peak, due to its expansive summit. This majestic mountain has thwarted numerous expeditionary efforts from around the world. Nevertheless, its conquest was finally achieved on June 9, 1957, by the Austrian Karakoram Expedition.
