What sets Rakaposhi apart is its remarkable uninterrupted vertical rise, spanning approximately 6,000 meters (19,685 feet) from base to peak, making it the tallest mountain on land when measured by this metric. In 1958, Rakaposhi witnessed its historic first ascent by members of a British-Pakistani expedition. Mike Banks and Tom Patey successfully reached the summit via the Southwest Spur/Ridge route on June 25, albeit not without challenges. Both climbers endured minor frostbite during the arduous ascent, while tragedy struck during the descent when another climber slipped and tragically lost their life during the night.
