Broad Peak stands as the third highest peak in the Karakoram Range and the fourth highest in Pakistan, positioned at the western end of the Baltoro glacier. Despite its imposing elevation of 8,047 meters (26,400 feet), this peak remained relatively unexplored by mountaineers for quite some time.
Designated as PK 23/52 in Pakistan’s survey records, locals aptly dubbed it ‘Falchan Brak,’ translating to Broad Peak, owing to its expansive summit. This majestic peak has thwarted numerous expedition attempts from across the globe. However, its conquest was achieved for the first time on June 9, 1957, by the Austrian Karakoram Expedition.
